On September 27, when Cascata Golf Course re-opens from annual overseed, it will do so with a welcomed bonus – pristine and all-new white sand bunkers. All of the greenside bunkers on Las Vegas’s best public golf course have been renovated with new sand, liners and revamped drainage lines to ensure the best quality, year-round playing conditions possible.
“The preemptive maintenance we performed on Cascata is a commitment to our players and guests to make sure they have the best golf experience available,” said Jeff Krohn, VP of Golf Operations for VICI Golf Properties. “The bunkers were twenty years old and showing their wear. The renovation process went extremely smooth and with its completion, we believe we’ve taken the Cascata playing experience to the next level.”
The bunker renovation was strictly preventative and only included minor changes to the iconic Rees Jones design. New sand called Unipar from Idaho, a Marifi Geo textile Fabric Liner, and restored drainage for all bunkers mean more consistent and sustainable playing conditions Cascata’s bunkers.
BUNKER DURING RENOVATION
In total, all 34 of Cascata’s greenside bunkers were renovated, to the tune of 71,000 square feet of bunker area and more than 1,200 tons of pure white Idaho sand. Mostly out of play, the back-left bunker on No. 16 was removed, while the lone bunker located front left of the 8th green is back to frame that hole.
“This was a much-needed project for Cascata,” said Scott Delpiere, Director of Maintenance at Cascata. “Not only do the new bunkers look fantastic, but the playing experience for our guests has drastically improved as well. Better drainage, new liners, and a consistent white sand base will give our guests a bunker experience that’s reflective of the overall quality found at Cascata.”
